What makes the difference between TC and B school

After John Merrow's speech last Saturday, one alumni who got a MBA degree after graduate from TC raised a question and mentioned the difference between TC and Business school. This question comes to my mind each time I went to Business school in Columiba. Different learning style, different 'students', and different interaction pattern.

If we can compare the learning process between TC and B school, we will see the significant difference. What I am interested is what make these differences? The pedagogy? assignment? 'hard' and 'soft' environment? culture?

AERA highlights-Education Games/Environment

Education game/environment is an increasing research field. As I know, GCCCE2009 will form a special division for educational games. Also, there are many researches and developers focus on this area in AERA. Even ETS develops games! The research topics including video games, simulations, serious games, virtual world, online games and etc. Personally, I perfer using learning environment to indicate the game because we can not easily differentiate between game for learning and learning with game.

Education game/environment is a suitable topic for educational technology researches. Each game/environment requires theory and technology support in which our expertise can devote.

Here will be a list to highlight the institution and papers on this topic.

AERA highlights-Cognitive Neuroscience

Generally, when attend the domestic conference about education, we could hear from the viewpoint from education, psychology and sociology.  The AERA is the hugest conference I have attended ever not only because the number of participators but also the fields it covered in education. Neuroscience is one of the frontier field attract researches' interests.

Here is the Presidential Session in the subject of Cognitive Neuroscience and Education. Michael Posner from University of Oregon deliver a speech titled Bridging Brain, Cognition, and Education From an Early Developmental Perspective

From my perspective, the role of neuroscience in education is twofold. Neuroscience is providing evidence for our previous finding in education on psychology and sociology level. Besides explanation role, on the other hand, this rapid developing field is discovering our learning mechanism directly. Brain is not a 'black box' now. Absorb the findings from neuroscience will benefit us a lot and bring a different perspective.

AERA2009

The AERA 2009 annual meeting is just held in San Diego, California.

Each participator has the 2009 Annual Meeting Program  as a guideline to choose the workshops and sessions.  Since one cannot go through all the reports, this program will be an useful handbook for review after the conference. The participator and subject index is most helpful for those who miss the AERA annual meeting.
